the floating world tour

As much as we are excited about releasing our twelfth album with Cry, there's little doubt that Simple Minds are probably, first and foremost, a live band, and a touring band. And no matter how good the songs may have turned out in the recording, our songs always take on a new life when we play them live. And from this point, we're really looking forward to this year when we'll tour worldwide - our first worldwide tour for an excessively long time. And within this tour, we hope to not only live up to, but surpass the reputation of Simple Minds, as forged over the past two decades. And that really is the future for Simple Minds. - Jim


The Floating World Tour (named after the last track of the Cry album) saw the return of Mel Gaynor and Our Secrets Are The Same session player Eddie Duffy (who’d also appeared on stage with the Minds at the Scotland Rocks For Kosovo benefit concert). The keyboard position was filled by Andy Gillespie, who quickly won fans over with his knowledge of the Minds’ back catalogue and preference for Mick MacNeil's samples and playing style.

Eddie and Andy were also long term fans of the band and argued for many, older (almost forgotten) songs to appear in the set-lists. Therefore fans were treated to a healthy selection from the new Cry album, the usual suspects, and some real treats (such as Changeling, Dead Vandals, Space and Theme For Great Cities).

Other old favourites such as custom lights, merchandising and tour programmes also reappeared, making The Floating World Tour one of the biggest tours of recent years and one of the most fondly remembered.


The programme was packed with quotes from Jim, a band history, tour dates and discography. The pictorial content was almost random with a selection of shots from the Good News From The Next World Tour, recent band portraits and miscellaneous textural shots.





A special tour programme was produced for the Taormina concert.

The first tour itinerary covered rehearsals in Glasgow through to the show of the 4th June in Brussels.
