background
Island Life was one of the songs demoed for Neapolis. It
was eventually dropped as Jim and Charlie
couldn't make it work.
It was revisited during the Big Music sessions, but then abandoned. It
was felt that the track simply didn't have any potential.
"We've been around the houses three or four times with this song. We've kicked it into touch, swore we'd never look
at it again, convinced ourselves it's a pile of crap. Then, one day, it turns up on a random playlist on your iTunes
and you go "There's that fucking terrible song again... No, hold on, this sounds great." Sometimes, a song just needs to find its
time. I'm quite sure that's the case with most writers who are as long in the tooth as me and Charlie." -

"Sometimes songs are in the vaults because they're no good, somethimes you just can't crack it. They're obviously
something at the start of a song that excites you and, like this current idea, it just takes it popping up randomly
again for you to go, 'That's great.' But somethings you get fooled, because you'll work on it for months again,
only to go 'Oh God. I'm bored of it again now.' A song can be great for the first minute, but you're kidding yourself
on if you think it's good for all four minutes. And sometimes it really is a great song that doesn't fit in with the rest
of the pack. All I can say about the current one is, I hope it doesn't take us another 22 years to get it right." -
