dvd-audios
A competitor to SACD, DVD-Audio uses DVD technology
to cram extra information onto the disc. Unfortunately, this means that DVD-Audios
can only be played in DVD players (they won't play in normal CD players) but the benefits,
such as 5:1 surround sound, text, graphics and menu systems, certainly outweigh the
disadvantages.
Whilst preparing New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84) and Once Upon A Time
for these releases, Ronald Prett returned to the original multi-tracks
to reassemble the albums and therefore produce a true 5:1 surround sound. In doing so,
many alternative takes and extended versions were discovered; and these were carefully
restored and used for these releases.
Therefore, not only do you get both albums in surround sound, you'll get longer versions
of many of the songs as well. Therefore these releases are highly recommended.
