Simple Minds were finishing up the Once Upon A Time tour in Australia and
New Zealand so there was little chance of getting them into a studio to film a new promotional video. Luckily Ghostdancing
was one of the songs featured on Alive In Rotterdam so that footage was used as the basis for
the video.
Normally the album or single edit would've been dubbed over the live tweaked footage. (As was done with
Waterfront or Sanctify Yourself).
Oddly the decision was made to stay with the live audio. This lead to another issue - the original performance at Rotterdam was over
seven minutes long.
Now faced with the prospect of editing both the video and audio to create a consise and compact promo, the editor decided to keep
both intact and instead fade out after around four minutes. So this is why the video appears to suddenly stop with the audio faded out
just as Jim reached "The car pulled up, the girl she jumped in" section.

A master was created on the 1st November 1986 but information about it is scant. A second master was
made a week later, now titled Short or Edit 1 - and this is the version that was broadcast.
The two masters and a protection copy are held in the Universal Archive. It's hoped that the first
master (made on the 1st November 1986) is the original long version - but I suspect this is just the
original version from Alive In Rotterdam.
