40 years of hits tour 2021

Simple Minds celebrate 40 iconic years in music by embarking upon a major world tour in 2021. These are rescheduled dates from 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Federal and State Government directives, the Simple Minds '40 Years Of Hits' shows due to take place in November and December in Australia & New Zealand have been rescheduled and will instead take place in December 2021 (see new dates below).

Special guests ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK will be joining them on all of the revised dates. Existing tickets remain valid for the new dates.

The frustration of seeing yet more live shows being rescheduled is huge. We are determined to make even more effort for our fans in Australia and New Zealand. In the meantime we ask all of you to keep your tickets - and keep the faith! We guarantee our live shows will be worth the extra wait… Thanks to all! - Jim

To celebrate 40 iconic years in music Simple Minds will be embarking upon a major world tour in 2020. What kind of show do you have planned?

"Again, I think we will be playing two sets, so we will be playing a lot of music. We are going to have to tick all the boxes that I said to you, and people will hear all the big songs you would expect, but we have got to keep our hardcore fans happy as well, and maybe play two or three songs that either they have never heard us play, never expected us to play, or haven't heard for a long time – so we will do that. We are only just starting to think about it now, but the very title of the tour and the fact it's forty years - it has to be all-encompassing, and again, as I was saying, it has to show us as still full of energy and vitality forty years later. We somehow have to bring the whole culture of Simple Minds into these two and a half hours." - Jim, XNoise Interview with Mark Millar, October 2019

"I think there is a lot of mileage in [the current lineup] still – they are the greatest people, and they have brought a lot of energy. They are the ones who are feeding us just now. We have had so many great line ups, but I think right now the lineup we had in the states, there is a lot of mileage still in that." - Jim, XNoise Interview with Mark Millar, October 2019

"It's been said that Simple Minds has a love affair with Australia and I think that's true" - Jim.

Year has just begun, but part of me is already looking forward to the latter part of 2020 when Simple Minds and OMD join forces for our tour of Australia and New Zealand. Hard to believe it is now over a decade since we last worked together, but the memory of that UK arena tour continues, particularly with regards to how much the audiences loved hearing the great catalogue of songs that Paul and Andy have written.

I've mentioned before how I first heard Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark via John Peel's nightly BBC radio show, causing me to immediately make my way into the small record shop in the town of Monmouth in order to buy their first single. (Simple Minds were recording then in nearby Rockfield studios.) Later, back home in Glasgow I bough their debut album on the day of release. My favourite track was probably Messages.

More recently I listened to the Sodajerker podcast featuring OMD, detailing their songwriting process while outlining their long-lasting story to date. The guys sound in form and I'm sure all those planning to come see OMD with Simple Minds will not leave disappointed.

The tour was cancelled by the promoter in July 2021. "Roundhouse Entertainment and Frontier Touring regret to advise that due to ongoing international travel restrictions and uncertainty surrounding national border closures because of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, they have taken the decision to cancel the Simple Minds '40 Years Of Hits Tour' in Australia and New Zealand, originally re-scheduled for December 2021.".

All tickets were refunded.
