night of the proms 2016

Jim and Charlie saw out 2016 performing across Europe as part of Night Of The Proms.

It was the same format as before with select songs being given the complete orchestral treatment. At the end of the performance, all the perfomers sang David Bowie's Heroes.

"Alright Charlie, let's put the acoustic away for the moment. We have a whole orchestra and choir waiting for us in Germany - 19 performances over the next few weeks. And then after that we have a full on rock band accompanying us to Australia and New Zealand." - Jim, 21st November 2016

"[We're in] London today. As always we'd love to get to the Natural History Museum, but no time? There is now a few days break from the Night Of The Proms tour of Germany, but no real break. That explains this London trip where we are pushing on recording the follow-up album to Big Music - released two years ago. Some will immediately want to know when it is scheduled to be released? It is scheduled to be released when we think "this is the very best we can do at this moment in time!" Why is it important to continue writing/recording at all? Don't we have enough songs already etc? Do audiences want to hear new stuff from classic acts? Questions like these are valid. However it is the fact that we continue to write and record that helps us continue to evolve. And if you are not evolving artistically - then you are already dead. Great new songs, worthy of getting excited about, help keeps things fresh. Rejuvenation takes hold naturally. And that feeling alone results in Simple Minds not feeling that they are merely a museum piece... yet!" - Jim, 5th December 2016

"It is the last dates of this Night Of The Proms. Hannover tonight, followed by Hamburg on th 16th and 17th, with the last being in Bremen on Sunday 18th. As always it has been a pleasure and an honour to share a stage with so many talented musicians and artists. It has also been a thrill to witness the reaction to our own performances throughout this tour. Truly great way to finish off our work for this year. Thanks from the heart to all!" - Jim, 14th December 2016

"Still amazed after all these years to witness how much pleasure the song [Don't You (Forget About Me)] gives, both to those who recall it when it topped the Billboard Charts in 1985, and to subsequent generations. We have just witnessed three weeks of sold out arena crowds go crazy throughout Germany as a sixty piece orchestra plays out a quite amazing version, whatever way there is no doubt that as far as popular songs go - it is cherished by many. Of course the original song was not written by ourselves. We neither own the recording, or the publishing, despite the fact that we made the record. (You live and learn!) Had we owned it, even though we are not too proud to "sing for our supper", I very much doubt you would have seen it attached to the television advertising campaigns that it has been recently in USA." - Jim, 18th December 2016
