festival tour 1997

A low key European festival tour saw an almost reformed Simple Minds return with Derek Forbes back on bass and Mel Gaynor back behind the drums. The reinstatement of these two members also sparked an renewed interest in the band’s back catalogue with I Travel and 30 Frames A Second returning to the live set.

It was also a road test of the new material as Glitterball and War Babies were unveiled. After a less than lukewarm response whilst playing Chrysalis’ top brass the demos for Neapolis, Jim and Charlie played them to a wider audience. The reaction was extremely enthusiastic.

During longer breaks in the schedule, Jim and Charlie travelled to Paris and Sicily for album recording sessions at PlusXXX and Capri Digital respectively.

The tour itinerary featured cup winners Celtic - probably to wind up Derek.
