saturday girl (demo)

composer
Words and music: Simple Minds

publisher
© 1989 Virgin Music (Publishers) Ltd

background
Rough #1 is almost the same as the final recording, but the levels of all the instruments needs more work. In particular the drums are too high in the mix, and Jim's vocals are too low for the first verses and choruses. There are some slightly different vocals in a couple of places. The song ends with a slow fade at 6:09, so it's the same length as the final take.

lyrics
Rough #1
And your love comes tumbling down,
And you walk right in, your heart going round.
You tell me that you'll be back early.
But I know you won't be around.

Chorus:
Ooh Saturday Girl.
Ooh Saturday Girl.
When you drop by, I want to see you cry.
Ooh Saturday Girl.

When you go through the tunnel of life,
You're gonna open your eyes.
But you could cut the atmosphere with a knife around here,
'Cos you know there's is no compromise.

Chorus

When the moon lights up the street like diamonds,
And all is still and quiet once again,
I like to pull you here and whisper in your ear,
Tell you what about the loney man.

Ooh Saturday Girl.

Is somebody there?
I said is somebody there?
If I see you there.
I can feel you there.
I know that love is around.
I know that it's gonna be right.
And I know that it's gonna be right.
If I could see you there.
I would come over there.
I know pretty soon it's gonna be alright.

Chorus
Chorus:
Ooh Saturday Girl.
Ooh Saturday Girl.
Oh when the years roll by, I want to see you cry.
Ooh Saturday Girl.

Just think about it.
Aah think about it.
Come on think about it.
Go on think about it.
Just think about it.
Go on think about it.
Ooh, come on think about it.
