background
This was one of the last songs from the sessions to be written.
Whilst mixing Love Song for its
single,
Mick was sat in a corner of the studio
jamming with a drum machine, echo box and his keyboards. Noticing that he'd just
stumbled onto something, he was hastily recorded on two-track as a demo, and the song
given the title League Of Nations Part 2.
The drum machine was looped and the song was built on top of that.
Charlie's solo in the middle
of the song was also a total accident, also discovered whilst he was jamming in the studio.
It was quickly recorded and mixed, and pressed into service as the B-side of the Love Song
single. It was such a hasty process that instructions were given on the tape box for the shorter
version on the 7" single: For 7"B Fade 4:02 - 4:15.
However, given the chaotic nature of recordings, it was decided later to give the song vocals, and it was this later
mix which turned up on the album.

What's your name?
What's your nation?
Sense of order,
Sense of speed.
Earth that you walk upon.
Shakes his hand,
Turns away,
Turns his back and walks away.
Earth that you walk upon.
Earth that you walk upon.
What's your name?
What's your nation?
Sense of order,
Sense of speed.
Earth that you walk upon.
Passing on and on.
Earth that you walk upon.
Screaming edge of light,
Shines so, shines so hard.
Earth that you walk upon.
Turning on.
