background
The opening song of Real To Real Cacophony set the standard for the A-side of the
LP; echoing synths in dub, abstract lyrics, and a complete loss of the poppy style and melodies of their
previous album.
It was written before the album sessions started.
The shocking, unconventional start to their second LP wasn't featured live often, although Johnny Waller
mentioned it being played at the Edinburgh gig he reviewed.
"The reverb on the vocal was meant to sound like Kraftwerk...it's "Radioactivity". The Reverb is zingey but
deep; it's double tracked; and probably mix of all that and a 250 millisecond delay, and as it was 1979, it's just a EMT plate. I
don't think Rockfield had echo chambers built at that time but they always had a selection of plates in the horse stable! It's
the way it's sung too." - John Leckie

Real to real cacophony.
Echo, echo; endlessly.
Satellites communicate,
Pick up signal,
Then translate.
Real to real cacophony.
Transmission for you and me.
Satellites communicate,
Pick up signal,
Then translate.
Real to real cacophony.
Echo, echo; endlessly.
Do you receive me?
Do you receive me?
Do you receive me?
"NO"
