someone somewhere in summertime (demo)

composers
Written by: Kerr / Burchill / MacNeil

background
Simple Minds reworked Someone Somewhere In Summertime during the jamming sessions for Once Upon A Time. Two similar versions of the song appear on Jams #2 which was recorded at Barwell Court in January-March 1985.

The song was stripped right down to its elements, with the tempo dramatically reduced. It sounds like it was just Jim, Charlie and Mick with a drum machine.

The first take was a truncated recording of the new version with Jim scatting the vocal line. The recording suddenly stopped after a couple of verses and choruses.

The second take featued the entire new version of the song. This will be familar to many Simple Minds fans as it was leaked back in the mid 2000s. (See this YouTube recording which incorrectly states it was from 1981). The song also includes a riff which later became a key part of Real Life.
