the low song (demo)

background
This was the first title for Hunter And The Hunted, conceived during a writing session in January 1982.

An incomplete jam of the song appears on the second monitor mix tape of May 1982. The front had been clearly recorded over but some of the song was intact. The recording was slightly muffled and not as clear as the Monitor Mixes which partially overwrote it. It suddenly stops as the tape runs out.

The full song appears in rough form on Rough Mix Tape #1. It is complete with count-in and long fade out. The rough mix is much the same as the final album take but features a longer keyboard inprovision where Mick plays the keyboard lines which would eventually be recorded by Herbie Hancock.

An instrumental of the album version was committed to tape (Reel 3) on the 12th August 1982.

Other versions appear on Reel 13 which as recorded on the 14th August 1982. These include Tk1 Full Duration which is shorter than the album version and includes some differences; and Tk2 Fade Only which is the end of the album mix but is missing the Herbie Hancock solo.
