background
Jim would recall that This Fear Of Gods was inspired by a same-titled
short story in Jorge Luis Borge's Labyrinths: "One of those stories, 'This Fear Of Gods',
tells of a man who waited for God for century upon century. He had an absolute faith in God's eventual arrival,
but God let him down. Eventually he does arrive, in the shape of a large
bird. By then, the man has lost his illusions, and he shoots the bird. He shoots his God! The gods have not left
us, we killed them."
However, that book doesn't feature a short story called This Fear Of Gods!
This lengthy closing track on the first side of
the album, This Fear Of Gods became a fairly obscure number,
only featuring live during the end of the Real To Real Cacophony tour and the
start of the Empires And Dance 1980 tour.
"Trance like genius. We were so in tune with each other at this time. The chemistry of the original band will never be beaten.
Simply mysterious."
"We would wake up, breakfast ready on the huge kitchen table, eat what you could, before the inevitable food fight
would start, then transfer ourselves into the studio to commit our talent to tape."
"I have recreated Gods on my album, simply because I love the track, and it definitely set us up as one of the
most exciting bands on the planet. I found out, during my new recording, that the key in the album is D-Flat, as
John Leckie, our producer of the highest order, must have slowed the tape down.
He did work with all The Beatles to be fair."

Someone singing in the shower.
Someone singing in the shower.
Singing, singing, singing,
Singing shower.
Someone's singing in the shower.
I hear a voice and hear no angel.
I hear a voice and hear no angel.
Hero see no, hero see no,
Hero see no,
Hear and see no,
Hear a voice and see no angel.
Violence and vivisection.
Violence and vivisection.
Lust, lust, lust,
Lust, lust, lust.
Violence and vivisection.
Gods.
Gods.
This fear of Gods.
Some boys are calling,
Boys are crying.
Some boys are calling,
Boys are crying.
Calling, calling, calling,
Crying.
Calling, calling, calling,
Crying.
Fear is fast,
I'm turning white now.
Fear is fast,
I'm turning white now.
Faster, faster, faster,
Faster, faster, faster.
Fear is fast.
I'm turning white now.
Gods.
Gods.
This fear of Gods.
I'm back on black,
Fear of Gods.
Back on black.
