Most of the time there was spent jamming and many of these sessions were recorded on a portable cassette player. In particular, Charlie and Mick would improvise ideas through the night with Jim listening and adding suggestions. One of these tapes was leaked and is the source of the so-called "Sparkle In The Rain demos."

At the end of the stay, the whole band formally recorded six instrumental tracks and logged them with Virgin. None of the songs were given names and none had lyrics. (The demos feature on three tapes: one six track master tape and two three track copies).

Only the first song on the demo tape, Old Chapel Song #1, would be finally recorded for Sparkle In The Rain where it eventually became Book Of Brilliant Things.

Two of the other demos were instantly recognisable as early versions of All The Things She Said (Old Chapel Song #3) and I Wish You Were Here (Old Chapel Song #6) and were eventually formally recorded for Once Upon A Time.

Old Chapel Song #2 was worked on during the Once Upon A Time sessions but was eventually dropped.

The other two songs were never taken forward and were discarded.
