additional information
This undated tape is simply retrospectively titled "Jams 1" (as the original title and tape timings have been erased by Tipex). There’s no date or studio information, but from the tape contents, then it was probably taped at Barwell Court during the band's second stay (January-February 1985) as many of the songs have moved to recognisable early Once Upon A Time material.

It is the first of three tapes.

All the songs are instrumentals which suggests this material was recorded early in 1985 before Jim's stay in Nice in April/May 1985, when he wrote the lyrics for many of the tracks.

At a later date, probably when "Jams 1" was written on the tape box, four song titles have been written in the same black ink pen, all emphasised as "Jams." These are: 5/4, Come A Long Way, Reggae and Someone. This suggests that only four tracks are present, but the tape features multiple takes of each – luckily these are grouped, so it’s possible to give the nine separate rough takes on the tape their original names.

A third alteration had been made, this time in a scratchy ball-point pen. The main additions have been to note the various tape counter times of the various takes and also to add some interesting comments to each of the song titles: 5/4, Come A Long Way and Someone are marked "No" suggesting these roughs weren’t to be considered further. Reggae is labelled "Spark" which is probably short for Sparkle In The Rain and a hint of the song’s original recording during those sessions.

At some point, the tape was reused and the rejected 5/4 was over-recorded with a new, later version of Alive And Kicking. This new addition was noted at the bottom of the box and an arrow indicated its position as appearing at the start. As this new recording was longer than 5/4, it also overwrote the start of the first take of Come A Long Way.
