ted carroll
record company (chiswick)
associated with band: april 1977 - november 1977

One of the bosses of legendary punk and new wave label Chiswick Records.

He signed Johnny And The Self Abusers on their name alone.

He was indirectly responsible for the longevity of The Abusers, delaying the release of their single by several months, which lead to the band sticking together.

Jim and the band’s manager (assumed to be Scott McArthur) attempted to persuade Carroll to change the name of the band on the single to Simple Minds. Carroll told a white-lie, stating that the labels were already printed. When the single did appear, it was credited to the Abusers.

Chiswick were attempting to book gigs for the Abusers in London - but the band split up when the single was finally issued.

Subsequent demo tapes by Simple Minds were sent to the Chiswick office. Carroll wasn’t interested - he didn’t like their new name.
