Steve Mackie started his career in Bruce's in
Sterling where he worked with Scott McArthur. He later worked
in Grafitti in Glasgow where many of
Johnny And The Self Abusers used to hang out.
After moving to Edinburgh, he booked the fledgling
Simple Minds for as many gigs as possible in the
eastern parts of Scotland, and set
up his own label, Housewives Choice. He was an early choice of manager
for the band, but reluctantly declined.
As his work booking bands took him to London based record companies, he hawked the
band's demo tape from office to office, but
had little luck.
