Jim Kerr Playing to sell-out arenas and global audiences, professional drummer Cherisse Osei celebrates 13 years of international touring. Working with industry legends and innovative, upcoming artists including Mika, Bryan Ferry and Paloma Faith, she has played the world's best music festivals and featured on major American, UK and European TV shows. From Coachella and Glastonbury to the Isle of Wight, South by Southwest, Fuji Rock, Exit and Roskilde, she dazzles with versatility and verve. Cherisse Osei's visual flamboyance and rock solid technique make her one of the most sought after drummers in the UK.

Cherisse was given her first drums at the age of five – a pink Mickey Mouse kit from her uncle – and has been playing ever since. By 12 she was performing in bands and as a result exposed to many genres of music. Her fascination with drumming styles only continues to grow.

In recognition of her talent, Cherisse was invited to the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony to perform a recording of the specially commissioned piece by composer Philip Sheppard in the National Stadium before an audience of 1.5 billion TV viewers.

"It was Halloween 1985 when Simple Minds first used a live percussionist. We had just released our Once Upon A Time album and rather nervously started our world tour in Poughkeepsie, New York. The highlights that night were vocalist Robin Clark and percussionist Sue Hadjopuolos, both making their debuts with Simple Minds. The rest of us were unfortunately a little under rehearsed. Both toured throughout the next year, featuring in more than 150 Simple Minds concerts worldwide. To this day we have great affection for them and feel honoured to have had their talent on stage with us. As is the way with everyone and anyone we have shared a stage with. All played a part in our on-going story."

"Cherisse Osei was not even born when we set out on that tour in 1985. However fast forward more than three decades to Zurich - a couple of nights ago - and I am sure everyone in the venue would have been transfixed by Cherisse's percussion skills and dynamic personality. Certainly everyone on stage felt that way as we witnessed her make a perfect Simple Minds debut."

"Cherisse brought a lot to the recording sessions for the soon to be released Acoustic album. Her percussive ideas brought movement to the music - and in some ways we found the missing piece - thanks to her input. We are delighted to have her working with Simple Minds. I am sure anyone who gets to see her live will agree that Cherisse is the latest in a line of excellent performers that in their own way have contributed so much to the live reputation that Simple Minds should be proud of. Well done and welcome - from all of us Cherisse!" - Jim, 31st October 2016
