Glittering Prize was issued as promotion for the forthcoming
New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84) album, but Virgin
were giving nothing else away, spreading various extended and instrumental versions of the track
across the 7" and 12" releases.
The Theme included the extended and instrumental versions of the title track,
again both CD firsts. The unexpected (and well thought out) bonus was the extended version of
New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84) which had slipped out unannounced on some German CD
pressings of the album, before turning up on a
12" single in Italy, and finally gracing the B-side of the German issue of
I Travel.
