Stand By Love was issued to coincide with the band's return to the UK
with the Real Life Tour. Virgin spared no expense with
the release as the Stand By Love single appeared as four limited edition glossy
deluxe packages.
The 7” (in an envelope sleeve), 12” (gatefold with booket) and CD (multiple-fold digipak) all featured the album
take of Stand By Love (no remix was ever forthcoming) with live takes of
King Is White And In The Crowd and
Let There Be Love (12” and CD only) recorded by Westwood One at
the Universal Amphitheatre in LA.
When broadcast, the Westwood One show spawned an amazing number of bootleg albums and CDs – the most for
any Simple Minds concert.
The cassette single surfaced a week later, and featured three exclusive tracks recorded the previous week at
Glasgow Barrowlands.
This Theme simply included the three tracks from the 12" (which were also available on the CD single at the time).
Unfortunately the three Barrowlands tracks (Stand By Love,
Banging On The Door and
Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) weren't included as bonus songs,
but can be found on an hard-to-get CD promo (Live At Barrowland),
the equally illusive Real Live 91 fan club CD and the easy to find
Silver Box.
