additional information
The band concluded the 1980s and the Street Fighting Years
era with the surprise release of The Amsterdam EP. A gap
in the touring schedule saw Simple Minds in Amsterdam where they
worked on several tracks and ideas; and this EP was the result.
Let It All Come Down was the token link with the
Street Fighting Years album and appeared in its album and an
edited form. The cover of Sign O' The Times as the second 'A' side
raised a few eyebrows, but Jim had long voiced his admiration of
Prince. In addition, C J Mackintosh reworked the track into a contemporary extended form.
And finally an instrumental of Jerusalem saw off the band's final release of the decade.
Virgin clearly felt the single needed as much promotion as possible and issued it on
six different formats ranging from a 7" and cassette single through to a limited edition gatefold with a pop-up tour map.
A release of a limited edition 5" CD meant that all the tracks had been issued on CD a mere year before this
Theme's release (and the track listing was the same order as the limited edition CD and not the 12").
