As the Ballad Of The Streets EP was simply a selection of tracks
from the album, and This Is Your Land featured the album outtakes,
the Kick It In single continued this variety and featured
two remixes and a live track.
Producer Stephen Lipson was obviously itching to get his hands on
Waterfront, updating
Steve Lillywhite's crashing extended version by modelling it
a storm: the gradual build of the storm front, reaching a crescendo before dying away. His remix of
Kick It In was the exact opposite; smoothing and moulding the troubled stop-start original into a sanitised, frictionless, easy-listening
curio (no wonder it was given an "unauthorised" moniker).
The "live" Big Sleep was actually a rehearsal, recorded at
The Point, Dublin before the band started the mammoth Street Fighting Years tour.
It was also the 10th anniversary of Simple Minds, but this was only marked by a doubled sided discography poster
included in the limited edition gatefold 12".
As the unauthorised mix was relegated to limited edition release only, it remained stoically unissued on CD until
this Theme cleared everything up.
