Virgin briefly attempted to sell commercial MiniDiscs in the early 1990s, and Street Fighting Years was the only Simple Minds album to be released in this format. The LP's front and back artwork was reshaped and cropped down for the front and back inlay of the MiniDisc's insert, whilst the disc itself had the album's artwork printed on the front, and the track listing printed on the back.

Only a small number were pressed so this release is now difficult to find.
